V: The New Series has another interesting element, as Jeffrey Bell has been hired as showrunner on the Scott Peters’ and Jace Hall’s version of V.. Bell has signed a two – year, multi – million – dollar deal with Warner Bros. Television, who are producing V, and as part of that deal will both begin working on V, and eventually develop other projects for the studio..

Bell’s impressive list of credits include time working on The X – Files, Alias and Angel – on Angel, Bell served as showrunner by the end of the series and co – wrote ( With Joss Whedon ) and directed the series finale.. Bell’s most recent credit was CBS’s Harper’s Island, but we’re willing to forgive him for that misstep.. Bell says:

” Like many people, I have fond memories of watching the original V mini – series.. And to see how they did it now, it’s epic.. Scott Peters did a fantastic job relaunching it.. It seems like there are so many ways that you could go with this story..”

Like the original, the new V – which will debut mid – season on ABC – follows what occurs when an alien race arrives on Earth, claiming to be peaceful, but hiding some dark secrets..

” Especially when you look at our current times, with the economy, wars and social strife, it’s the perfect time for a force like this to come along.. In many ways this is a very American show, about the individual vs. society.. It’s about how America can appreciate and question things that seem to be too good to be true..”

bell 1Last month at the Upfronts, ABC president Steve McPherson revealed they are going into V with a definite plan for a beginning, middle and end and McPherson said the show was planned to run for four seasons.. Says Bell:

” I’ve been on a bunch of serialized shows now, and it helps the audience to know that this is what you’re in for, and this is how and when it’s going to end.. We’ve been talking about it in terms of installments, either by chapters or seasons.. We’ll build this first season to a big conclusion that is hopefully awesome, with a cliffhanger that launches you into the second season..”

The 4400′s creator Scott Peters wrote the pilot to V and will remain an executive producer on the project, which stars Elizabeth Mitchell ( Lost ), Morena Baccarin ( Firefly ), Scott Wolf ( Go ), Joel Gretsch ( The 4400 ), Morris Chestnut ( The Game Plan ), Laura Vandervoort ( Smallville ) and Alan Tudyk ( Firefly )..

Bell got his start as a writer on The X – Files, writing the 1999 episode ” The Rain King..” That story focused on a character called Daryl Mootz who could make it rain whenever he wanted, and would charge farmers money to help water their crops in a drought season..

He would later go on to write four more episodes of the Fox series through 2001 including Alpha, The Goldberg Variation, Signs & Wonders and Salvage while also serving as that series’ executive story editor..

After that, Bell moved to Angel where he worked as a co – executive producer and later an executive producer, writing 13 episodes for that series including “The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco “ and ” Not Fade Away..”

Bell would join Alias on ABC as a co-executive producer in 2005, and moving up to the executive producer position by 2006, writing four episodes for that series including ” The Orphan “ and ” Solo..”

Bell would then move on to executive produce two short-lived series, “Day Break” on ABC and “Harper’s Island” on CBS, writing five episodes between the two series..

Now, he’ll serve as an executive producer alongside Scott Peters ( Who penned the pilot ), Jason Hall and Steve Pearlman.. Yves Simoneau directed and executive produced the pilot..

” Scott and Steve have treated me as a partner in this, helping to shape this series,” Bell said..
