TV Guide and Warner Bros. Television teamed up for a Comic – Con ” Special Edition ” issue which went on sale Monday 26th July 2010.. TV Guide Magazine’s, William Keck, had the opportunity to sit down with V‘s Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum who has given V fans some spoilers and surprises that are installed for us when V: The New Series Season Two airs in November 2010.. We had a friend that attended Comic – Con, who was kind enough to pick up a copy for us so we can share with the fans.. So without any further adue..
TVGuide: Could you explain the Red Sky Anna ordered in the finale’s closing moments?
Scott Rosenbaum: All I will say is that it was the first shot in the war.. The Red Sky is an important tool in her arsenal to ensure her plans for humanity are successful..
TVG: Is Valerie really dead?
SR: Yes, Valerie is dead.. Anna, in an effort to gain emotional control over Ryan, killed her in order to use her death as a tool to bring him back into the V fold..
TVG: Will we get to see more of Ryan and Val’s lizard baby besides that glimpse of it’s tail?
SR: Absolutely.. Ryan’s baby will be an integral part of his Season Two emotional arc, as well as a tool for Anna to manipulate him..
TVG: Why did you decide to make Anna experience emotion over the loss of her baby army? Are we to believe that Earth’s humanity is having an impact on the Visitors?
SR: The reason the Vs are experiencing human emotion will be explained in Season Two.. The decision was based on the mythology I created about who the Vs are, where they came from and what their plan is.. I don’t want to give away the full answer right now, but beyond the mythology aspect, I also felt it was an interesting way to shape her character arc: Cold ice queen feeling an emotion.. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a positive human emotion, such as love or empathy.. It was a negative and destructive one: Vengeance..
TVG: Why was Anna so devastated over the loss of her eggs?
SR: Because she in fact felt human emotions for the first time.. Vs are bred not to have human emotions.. They are animals, only interested in the perpetuity of their species.. Human emotions are not good for this..
TVG: Anna conceived thousands of babies in an instant.. Why not just do it again, or have another female V breed an army?
SR: As for breeding capabilities, only the queen can give birth.. Anna will be able to conceive again, but it is a difficult and painful process with risks..
TVG: Will Father Jack leave the priesthood, enabling hunky Joel Gretsch to become a viable romantic leading man?
SR: Father Jack is going to have his faith shaken in Season Two.. He will face some excruciating decisions about his role in the world, the church and the war with the Vs..
TVG: Why was there no security or cameras guarding Anna’s precious stash of eggs? Both Erica and Chad moved about freely on the Mothership..
SR: The reason there are no security cameras is because the Vs are ” Of Peace..” Before coming to Earth, there was never a crime committed on the ship.. Ever.. Anna’s no fool, however, and in Season Two, security will be tightened up..
TVG: Will we get to meet more of the regular characters’ extended families?
SR: Yes.. We’ll also introduce a lot of new interesting characters..
TVG: Are you considering showing the Vs on their home planet?
SR: At some point, yes.. But first, I’m going to show them at the last planet they conquered.. It’s gonna be very, very cool..
TVG: What is the chance of seeing some cool cameos next season from the original V stars?
SR: I’m looking into it.. I hope we will see a few of them..
TVG: Will we get to see a full reptilian reveal of the Vs out of their human skin?
SR: Yes.. Next season we will see much more of the Vs.. We will learn how they function, their abilities as different from ours and all that fun stuff everyone’s looking forward to.. For instance, we’ll meet new V types, more soldiers and trackers..
TVG: We were told that we would learn by the finale why the Visitors were here and what they wanted from us, but we didn’t.. So …?
SR: If you watch the series very carefully, why they’re here is hinted at, just not spelled out.. However, in Season Two, our team will discover Anna’s plans for us and this will be more clearly ( Revealed ) for the audience..
TVG: Erica’s teenage son Tyler has seemed like kind of a wuss all season.. What are your plans for him?
SR: Tyler is no longer going to sit on his thumbs.. He’s going to get engaged in the war and pick sides.. The question is which side will he pick?
TVG: What’s the overall plan for Season Two?
SR: It’s going to be an adrenalised version of Season One.. More character reveals, more lizard reveals, more V mythology, more action and more plot twists.. We’ll really look at where the key characters came from, their back stories, peeling back layers for them.. Season Two needed to deal with a lot of setup, and now that it’s there, the dominoes are gonna fall.. Expect a roller – coaster ride..

ABC‘s V will be holding a panel discussion with its cast at Comic – Con this Saturday in San Diego ( 2:30 pm in Ballroom 20 ).. While it’s sure to be exciting, I’ve already received some early intel on two new characters joining the sci – fi series in its second season..
On the ground, a radical anti – Visitors Fifth Column sect will emerge, headed by a leader the show is currently casting..
But the new role that has me most jazzed: the mother of devilish V leader Anna ( Morena Baccarin ) will be making her debut.. Could this part possibly go to Jane Badler, who played the wicked Diana in the original 1980′s V? Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum recently told me he was looking to bring in some of the stars from the Original series, so wouldn’t casting Badler make perfect sense? I can only imagine the sparks that would fly if Diana and Anna ended up in the same ‘ mother ‘ ship.. Diana is about the only being I can think of who could possibly put Anna in her place, and then take granddaughter Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ) out for a gerbil burger..

This is a really interesting turn of events.. I actually mentioned this role for Jane Badler ages ago.. You can read more about it here..

TVGuide: What does the episode title ” Red Sky ” mean?
Elizabeth Mitchell: I can’t say.. I wish I could..
TVG: Fans of the Original Mini – Series might suspect the Red – Dust weapon being used or discovered..
EM: Yes, they might suspect that.. [ Laughs ] That is true, but it is highly secretive.. It is something that we will find out about at the very end of the episode, and we’ll want to know more about it.. Unfortunately, that’s part of the big crazy ending I can’t reveal..
TVG: Will Erica be physically throwing down with Anna in the finale or is it more of a verbal, strategic battle?
EM: Physical things will happen.. There will be some physical activities and there will be casualties on both sides, some pretty big ones, but it will not be just a verbal exchange.. There will be action taken, which is good because that’s what I like to see when it comes to our show..
TVG: Can you say whether any characters are safe?
EM: The truth is, the things that both sides are trying to accomplish are fairly huge, and there’s no way they can accomplish any of them without there being casualties.. Absolutely no one is safe.. I know you always say that to tease on shows, but that’s very much the truth.. I think Father Jack [ Joel Gretsch ] is OK.. His life was in danger at the end of the mini – four episode arc, so I think he’s OK..
TVG: With all these casualties, I’m assuming the family dinner doesn’t go well then?
EM: [ Laughs ] It depends on whose perspective you’re looking at.. I think dinner will be far more eventful than we anticipate.. I do indeed get myself up on the ship and there’s actually some pretty heartbreaking stuff that happens.. It’s the finale; you have to pull out all the stops..
TVG: Where does the line fall for Erica between protecting the human race and protecting her son, Tyler ( Logan Huffman )?
EM: I think she considers it one and the same.. Because her son is so visceral and so close, she’s more apt to do more damage if he’s directly involved.. Her son is pretty lucky to have her because she’s pretty even – headed about the whole thing, but this is one of the first times we’ll see her directly take action.. The repercussions are pretty huge..
TVG: Does Erica think Tyler’s girlfriend, Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ), has good intentions?
EM: Right now, I don’t know if she thinks she does or not.. She’s very on the fence as far as who Lisa is.. That may change as the show goes on, but I don’t believe that Erica thinks Lisa is someone to be trusted when we start the finale.. Lisa has a very big role in which way things go, so it’ll be interesting to see what Lisa does..

TVGuide.com: What are we going to see for the resistance’s charge against the Visitors?
Joel Gretsch: Well, right now the resistance is somewhat compromised.. Georgie [ David Richmond - Peck ] is up on the ship.. He’s such an integral and passionate part of the resistance and he’s is in a precarious place.. The mission right now is to find him and get him back.. That’s the drive in Tuesday’s episode..
TVG: Will the resistance continue to grow? And what will we see once they meet John May ( Michael Trucco )?
JG: Ryan has all this information about John May that he’s keeping from us.. It’s about what made Ryan human, to a certain degree, and why he fell in love with Val and became a part of the resistance.. That’s a big thing we’re heading toward this week.. The whole episode is finding out who John May is, where he is, what happened to him and to what degree he will help the Fifth Column..
TVG: That sounds like a jam – packed episode..
JG: I remember reading the script and all of us actors got together and said, ” God, this is such a great episode because the fans are going to get a lot of information..” Michael Trucco, playing John May, is wonderful.. It’s going to be very exciting..
TVG: Will Father Jack have to choose between being a priest and being a fighter?
JG: Yeah, he will.. The episode we’re filming now, that question is very much in the forefront.. Father Jack is really an unlikely resistance fighter.. He’s ill – equipped. Even though he was in the war, he was there from more of a spiritual standpoint.. Father Jack is a fish out of water, yet he is learning that he’s got to do something.. He will definitely find his way through this, though it’s not an easy road for him and it pushes his moral dilemma..
TVG: Elizabeth Mitchell said the chemistry between Father Jack and Erica has God as a barrier.. Despite that barrier, will they continue to dance around each other?
JG: Yes.. There’s something very exciting about just working with Elizabeth.. Every time we get to the set, we enjoy working together.. It’s kind of hard not to let that come out when we’re doing scenes.. With the scenes that are happening, it’s an intimate thing.. It’s a small group of us.. It’s complex, but it’s wonderful in an intimate way that these two are together trying to accomplish taking down the Vs.. We do a bit of a dance, which comes from trust.. Plus, Elizabeth is a beautiful woman [ Laughs ]; it’s hard not to look at her in a certain way..
TVG: How will the R6 affect Father Jack?
JG: The R6 is a way for the Vs to know where he is.. It might be a way that Anna [ Morena Baccarin ] finds out that Jack [ is involved ] with the resistance.. It definitely comes up in the future.. There comes a time when Jack, because of his naïveté, could possibly compromise the resistance..
TVG: Because the war is growing, there must be deaths coming to the show.. What can you tease?
JG: Anna is on a mission and so are we.. When that collides, there will be casualties.. There are some very emotional episodes coming up..

V‘s war has begun and it’s time to choose sides.. The question is: Who will join the Visitors and who will join the resistance?
Though news anchor – turned – Visitor spokesman Chad Dekker ( Scott Wolf ) has grown close to Anna ( Morena Baccarin ) – and will continue to, says Wolf – there will be a time when he can’t ignore his underlying fear.. ” We start to see a Chad Dekker who has his better senses telling him that it’s time to start paying attention to what might really be going on,” Wolf tells TVGuide.com..
” Once his skepticism and fear take hold, he has to figure out where to go because he can’t just run away from the Visitors, but he also can’t keep running in the dark.. He is really playing both sides, waiting to see who’s going to win..”
” He starts being pulled in the direction of the resistance,” Wolf continues.. ” When it happens, it feels right.. It doesn’t feel like we just jammed two characters together because it’s fun to watch.. It feels like you’ve been waiting for that moment to happen..”
He’s not the only one choosing a side.. Anna’s daughter, Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ), may turn against her mother as well.. ” Lisa doesn’t necessarily know her mother’s plans, so she is following blindly,” Vandervoort tells TVGuide.com.. ” Maybe when she discovers her mother’s plans, she’ll change her mind.. She really is stuck to her mother.. Her mother is all – powerful and can take her out in a second if she really wants to, so Lisa has to be careful.. For all Lisa knows, the Vs do come in peace..”
Though Lisa will turn toward the resistance, it’s in a highly different capacity.. ” She does get a chance to talk to Tyler’s mother and tries to, perhaps, get Erica [ Elizabeth Mitchell ] to like her to better their plans.. At the same time, she’s getting to know Erica and discovering what it is to have a human mother and how different that is from a V mother..”
So what’s Anna’s master plan? ” By the end of the second chapter of episodes, the audience will have a really clear idea of why they’re there,” says Wolf..

TV Guide recently spoke with Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum about the upcoming birth on V: The New Series..
It was the seminal moment in the original V‘s ’80s run – the delivery of Robin’s lizard twins.. Now ABC‘s new V, returning March 30, will give birth to its own version..
The alien lizard is gestating in human Valerie ( Lourdes Benedicto ), unaware that her baby daddy Ryan ( Morris Chestnut ) is a reptile.. According to newly instated exec producer Scott Rosenbaum, before the series breaks for summer, fans will have an idea of what’s been born ” and an understanding of what could be coming..”
While Robin developed a green ring around her neck as her due date neared, that won’t happen to Val.. Rosenbaum is planning his own series of creepy prenatal reveals: ” The birth is going to be less interesting than the stories beforehand.. What happens when the baby kicks? Or when Val gets her ultrasound?”
I can just hear the ob – gyn now: ” Oh, look, it’s a boy.. No, wait…that’s a tail..”

TV Guide recently sat down with V: The New Series Executive Producer, Jace Hall.. During the interview Jace answered questions relating to his show, The Jace Hall Show, celebrities and the re – imaging of V.. Here’s what he said about V..

TVGuide.com: What would you say is the focus of V in the second half of the season?
Jace Hall: Because we’re dealing with a franchise that existed before in the ’80s, there are certain things that people expect and hope that this franchise will either nod to or communicate in some way.. What comes with that expectation is that we need to do some of that.. We’re able to actually go further with the story, beyond what people have seen or what they can predict.. When this reimaging took place, we actually had a plan and a sense of direction of where this whole thing is supposed to go, so it doesn’t have to be thought up at the last minute.. People will start to really get the benefit of all the forethought that went in..
TVG.com: The fourth episode left us with several huge cliff – hangers, including the impending arrival of an armada of Visitors.. What answers will we get when the show returns?
JH: The audience should always ask themselves when they’re watching this.. ” How would we plausibly react to these things that are coming and happening?” We’re trying to keep this show grounded and character – centric as much as possible, really think about if this was happening, what would logically start to occur and how would people naturally react.. That’s been the challenge and fun for the writing team.. Yes, you’re going to get answers, but those answers are going to create even more questions..
TVG.com: Jane Badler, who played Visitor Diana in the original miniseries, is guest-starring on The Jace Hall Show this year. Does this open the possibility for her to appear on ABC’s V?
JH: I personally would enjoy seeing her in some fashion in the show.. Jane is a great friend and she is wonderful.. That would be a trip.. That will ultimately be up to the writers’ room.. I’m just one person in a team of 100 people.. Yes, I know Jane.. Yes, Jane has come to my office.. That’s as far as I can tell you..
