V‘s Executive Producer, Scott Rosenbaum, has revealed that there will be ” shifting loyalties “ in V: The New Series Season Two..
Recently speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Rosenbaum suggested that the characters will face much more stress in future episodes.. Click on the image below to watch the ” First Part “ interview video..
The ” First Part “ of the interview, EW chats with Joel Gretsch ( Father Jack Landry ), Charles Mesure ( Kyle Hobbs ), Elizabeth Mitchell ( Erica Evans ), Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum and Morris Chestnut ( Ryan Nichols ).. The interview starts off with EW’s Michael Ausiello congratulating Elizabeth Mitchell on her Emmy nomination for LOST as they talk about her role and acceptance speech..
Moving onto V, the Cast and Scott Rosenbaum talk about getting over the growing pains of the first season and settling into the groove of the end of season, showing the potential of Season Two.. Morris Chestnut explains that it brought them closer as a cast and helped them grow into their roles which should make Season Two an exciting year.. As Joel Gretsch gives credit to Rosenbaum for pulling Season One together after joining behind – the – scenes half way through the season..
Rosenbaum explains how he came took over half way through Season One: ” I sorta came in middle and my goal was to try plant the seeds to create something that can last for a, hopefully, a really long time.. And I think if you watch the Season Finale, there’s some very strong choices for all the different characters..”
He continued: ” Coming off from that, just being in the Writers Room, we’ve had so many great stories that we’ve come with that we’re so excited to tell..”
” I’d say the last three episodes [ Of Season One ] are probably a good template for what the show will fell like moving forward..”
” What I want to do – and what [ The cast ] are so great at doing – is find the nerve endings in the characters and just squeeze them,” he said.. ” I think what’s going to happen is, they’re in a war.. And war changes people..”
He continued: ” When you talk about loyalty, I think it’s how are these characters going to react when they’re in a war and it’s life and death and they have to choose between themselves or possibly the greater good?? Which decision are they going to make??”
When asked about Season Two’s theme changing to ” loyalties,” early in Season Two, Rosenbaum explains: ” There will be, I think, a lot of loyalties shifting and a lot of maneuvering and then the question is when they fall, what side is everyone going to be on??”
Asked how importantly it is to air the show consecutive, Rosenbaum reveals: ” The plan is to run consecutive.. Actually, the first 6 [ Episodes ], I think, will air in November [ 2010 ] and then it’s Christmas so, I think, we’ll be off for two weeks, and then we’ll run the rest of the episodes..”
Rosenbaum promised that there will be a ” huge cliffhanger “ in the middle of the season and suggested that some of the dynamics of the show will change..
” The fun of this season is finally, I’m going to have [ The ] group led by Erica start to get a little bit ahead of [ Anna's group ] for the first time and start to figure out what their plans are,” he said.. ” So they’ll know what the red sky was, but the world won’t.. But it is the first shot of the war.. You will find out what it is at the end of the first episode but it’s such a big twist that I don’t want to give it away right now..”
The ” Second Part “ of the interview, EW chats with Logan Huffman ( Tyler Evans ) Laura Vandervoort ( Lisa ), Scott Wolf ( Chad Decker ), Morena Baccarin ( Anna ) and Executive Producer Steve Pearlman.. Click on the image below to watch the ” Second Part “ interview video..

The V Panel was held at 2:30pm on Saturday 24th July 2010 at the San Diego Comic – Con, which was presented in Ballroom 20.. In attendance was a star – studded cast which included Elizabeth Mitchell ( Erica Evans ), Morris Chestnut ( Ryan Nichols ), Joel Gretsch ( Father Jack Landry ), Logan Huffman ( Tyler Evans ), Laura Vandervoort ( Lisa ), Charles Mesure ( Kyle Hobbs ), Morena Baccarin ( Anna ) and Scott Wolf ( Chad Decker ), along with Executive Producers Scott Rosenbaum and Steve Pearlman..
When media reporters started lining up for the TV Panels at Comic – Con, in the wee early hours the morning, many asked nearby fans which cast they were waiting for.. A big portion of the crowd said they were already lining up for V.. Not that we ever doubted the dedication of Veeks alike.. Comic – Con goers were rewarded with lots of teases and tidbits on the upcoming season, and you get them right here without having to line up or anything..
So how is V: The New Series Season Two going to top Season One? Well during today’s panel at Comic – Con, Executive Producer Scott ( Skeeter ) Rosenbaum, promised that Season Two will be bigger and better in every way.. Rosenbaum acknowledged that ” not as many cards were turned over “ last season..
It’s no secret that V went through some serious behind – the – scene struggles its freshman year but with Rosenbaum solidly seated in the showrunner’s seat now, things are getting interesting.. One complaint some fans of the series had about the first season of the show was it felt too small in scope, given the situation.. Rosenbaum promised that Season Two of V would ” absolutely “ be bigger and that the network actually encouraged them to give the show more of an international feel, which everyone agreed was the right choice.. In fact, they’d recently sent crews to various parts of Europe and Asia to shoot footage that could be used as background for scenes they might like to spend in various countries down the line..
Lots of revelations are planned for season two, as well as tons of character backstory.. ” We’re going to see the true nature of what the visitors are about, and what they’re like underneath, so it’s going to be exciting,” says executive producer Scott Rosenbaum.. ” It will be chock full of great reveals,” Rosenbaum promises..
He also teased that Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ) will look for the nurturing she’s not receiving from mother Anna ( Morena Baccarin ) by developing a closer relationship with Erica ( Elizabeth Mitchell ), while Tyler ( Logan Huffman ) will return the favor by saddling up with Anna..
Most importantly, fans will finally get to meet Anna’s mother, who will make her entrance at the end of the first episode.. Rosenbaum hinted that this character was perhaps the most important among several new characters we’ll be meeting this year.. Later, a question was asked about whether we’d go to the Visitors’ home planet, and Rosenbaum said we’d certainly learn more about them – which is when he began a sentence with, ” When we meet Diana …”
This got a big reaction, and Rosenbaum admitted he’d just accidentally given away that yes, Anna’s mother will share the name with an iconic character from the original V.. Even before we knew this fact, Rosenbaum was asked during the panel if perhaps Jane Badler, who played Diana in V: The Original Mini – Series, could play Anna’s mother.. Rosenbaum wouldn’t commit to this, though he did say ” We’re going to cast the best actor and she is certainly someone we’re thinking about,” said Rosenbaum.. ” I don’t know if she’ll be Anna’s mother, but I’d like to have her be in the show this season..” Word is that Producers are talking to Jane Badler, the original alien baddie in the 1983 version of V..
So is the name a coincidence? ” When I was pitching the concept to the network and the studio on who this character was, it was easiest to frame it in terms of if it’s her mother, is it possible that [ It's the one ] from the ’80s series?” Rosenbaum said after the panel..
Season Two will uncover a lot more mysteries about the Visitors.. What the V‘s really look like.. How long they’ve been here.. And the V‘s true reasons for coming to Earth.. More about the Visitors under Anna’s leadership.. How their extended stay has changed world events and why they’re planning to stick around..
So what else was revealed for Season Two, well in no particular order:
In regards to the ” Red Sky “ in the Season One finale, ” You will find out what the red sky means at the end of the season premiere,” Scott promises..
Viewers will be treated to a piece of the V‘s home world.. ” When we meet Diana, she’ll be in her natural habitat,” reveals Rosenbaum.. It’s through ” Diana,” ( Anna’s mother ) viewers will see where the Visitors came from.. We’re going to meet Diana towards the end of the first episode of Season Two..
Joel Gretsch ( Father Jack Landry ) was asked if there will be more ” Action Jack “ next season.. At this point, Rosenbaum steps in and says that, yes, viewers will see more of a ” Soldier Priest “ than the ” Priest Soldier “ we saw in Season One.. We can only assume Jack will be giving a little less conversation and a little more action come next season.. Though Jack started out as a man of peace, his main challenge this year will be maintaining that morality.. The show is interested in pursuing what happens when mankind’s moral compasses ( Such as priests ) start losing their morality.. ” Jack is on the far end of the spectrum as a man of peace and God, so his challenge is to be able to maintain that..” Rosenbaum likened his underground man of God to the ” moral spine “ of humanity that the Visitors are so intent on breaking.. Father Jack will continue to question his faith and his belief that peace cannot be accomplished through armed Resistance..
Elizabeth Mitchell ( Erica Evans ) was asked about the strong characters she has played before; what makes Erica unique? She laughs, because she usually thinks of Erica the same as the other women.. She does say that Erica’s humanity is a major focus for her..
Morena Baccarin ( Anna ) is asked about her V offsprings being destroyed, and her subsequent scream, the first emotion she has shown.. She responds that Anna will face an interesting conflict all season after the death of her eggs.. ” It will take her closer to humanity than she wants to be,” Morena says.. Anna has a very ” slow and devious “ plan for mankind; the red sky is the first strike, and the meaning of that ominous coloring will be revealed in the first episode of the season premiere..
Erica and Anna will find that they have one thing in common: They are both losing their children.. Just as Tyler is seduced by the advanced technology of the Visitors, Lisa will continue to be handicapped by her emotions and empathy for the humans.. This will push each further away from their own mothers and into the waiting arms of a surrogate mother figure.. Tyler will align with Anna and Lisa will align with Erica – at least for a time.. Children are fickle and their attraction and desire to find something relatable and to fill the void in their hearts will draw them into worlds diametrically opposite from anything they have ever known..
Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ) will look towards Erica as a nurturing mother figure, while Tyler will be drawn closer to Anna; we’ll find out exactly why Anna is so obsessed with Tyler, and whether either woman will use the others child as leverage in the war..
” Lizard love is the best love!” says the beautiful Morena Baccarin rocking a blonde head of hair.. We will be finding out why she seems to be so interested in Tyler..
Was Scott Wolf’s ( Chad Decker ) character’s aneurysm real? It’s not entirely clear.. Is Chad Decker still interested in furthering his career, or is he looking for ” lizard love?” Wolf says yes, ” lizard canoodling “ with Anna would be worth it even if she bit his head off.. He suggests that Anna’s connection to humanity has much more to do with her attraction to Chad.. He also mentions that Chad will choose an allegiance next season and that people may be surprised to discover what side Chad ends up fighting on..
We’ll also get to meet Chad’s father mid season, which will shed some light on why Chad has made some of the decisions in his life that he has..
What was the purpose of killing Ryan’s ( Morris Chestnut ) wife, Val ( Lourdes Benedicto )? Rosenbaum says that it was necessary for Anna to make Ryan see the bad sides of humanity so he’ll again be susceptible to Anna’s bliss.. So Val really is dead.. She will not be returning for Season Two..
Logan Huffman ( Tyler Evans ) is asked if whether a Tyler will mend the rift with his father.. He hopes so, because shooting with Nicholas Lea ( Joe Evans ) was a lot of fun.. Tyler’s father, Joe Evans ( Nicholas Lea ), will be back in Season Two.. Tyler will also find out who his birth father is..
Rosenbaum reveals that as the Fifth Column expands, they are going to meet a ” pretty radical “ group of other Fifth Columns, which will cause conflict, as they have a very different means of dealing with the war..
Charles Mesure ( Kyle Hobbs ) announced at he is coming back as a series regular for Season Two and will take a more prominent role on the show.. Will Hobbes be forced to choose sides in the impending war? It appears that he’ll have to do just that.. Just exactly where on the spectrum of good and evil he falls is not yet determined.. ” He’s seen the V‘s as a real threat and the humans will have to do something about.. In Season Two, we’ll see which way he goes,” Scott Rosenbaum spills..
In a maneuver that shocked everyone last season he sold out the Resistance for a hefty sum of money.. But like Judas, he may ultimately regret taking the 30 pieces of silver in exchange for the lives of his new – found friends..
Hobbs may not yet realize it, but Erica, Jack, and Ryan have become a quasi – family for him.. Hobbs surprisingly has trusted them enough to invite them into his life and once they are excluded he may be surprised to realize how much he needed them.. They are not only the voice of reason, but the voice of humanity – and if Hobbs wants to retain his humanity, he will need to quickly decide which side he is on.. He will also begin to recognize that money is no longer the currency that it was before the arrival of the Visitors.. Such intangibles as loyalty, love and friendship may become the currency of the day in which he will suddenly find himself craving and seeking out.. Man cannot live by money alone.. Man must have human connections or longevity will be pointless..
Laura Vandervoort ( Lisa ) is asked whether Lisa is up to the challenge to be the possibile savior of humanity.. Yes, but she can’t say whether she will actually be that savior..
What is the dynamic between Erica and Anna next season? Rosenbaum said that the show is about two mothers battling for their children, and how far they are willing to go to protect their own.. There will be a burgeoning relationship between Erica and Lisa, while Tyler will be pushed towards Anna.. So, how do these women use, or not use, their new wards? Will the V‘s world be seen? Rosenbaum says that yes, when Diana, Anna’s mother, is seen, it will be in their home world.. ( This was actually an error by Rosenbaum who spoiled the name of Anna’s mom )..
What was the most shocking things for the cast? For Vandervoort, it was finding out Lisa was Anna’s daughter.. For Baccarin, it was killing Val.. Mitchell revealed that the audience will find out, definitively, why Anna is so interested in Tyler.. Rosenbaum expanded on this, saying that they are not trying to be cute about the show’s mythology.. In other words, Season Two will answer questions about the V‘s past, and their long – planned invasion of Earth, which are apparently ” very creepy..”
Will the V / human hybrid baby be central? Ryan’s child ” was not meant to be;” but Anna will use child for her ” devious advantage “ says Rosenbaum.. The hybrid is a way to manipulate Ryan.. ” The hybrid baby is another weapon, as Anna would look at it, in her arsenal..” Rosenbaum explained that her demise was a necessary power play for Anna, in her attempt to gain leverage over Ryan.. The conflicted father – to – be, seduced by the joys of human emotion needed to experience pain and suffering, another common aspect of humanity, in order to get him to return to ” V – dom..”
So is he Ryan now an enemy of the Fifth Column? Said Morris Chestnut, ” I don’t know, I think Ryan responds to the bliss depending on what kind of dress Anna is wearing..”
We’re going to find out how long the Vs have been here and whether and how they’ve changed world history.. We will find out more about how long the Vs have been putting sleeper agents on Earth.. Rosenbaum pondered, ” Have they been here in the 40s, the 50s, the 60s? Has their presence changed world events in ways we can’t imagine?” We will also find out exactly what the Visitors are, physically – whether we can truly define them as lizards or perhaps a combination of species..
Scott Rosenbaum wouldn’t say whether John May would return in Season Two..
V returns in November 2010 on ABC..
And finally, will the audience see the global impact of the V invasion? Absolutely.. While it is great to focus on the immediate concerns of those in New York, the global effect of the invasion is of major importance and will have consequences for all the characters.. We will see more of the Fifth Column around the world.. ” We’re going to be moving around more internationally,” says Rosenbaum.. The show will enjoy a global scope in season two, with footage shot in Europe and Asia.. So prepare to get global..
What do you think of V ‘s new direction? Are you on board?

TVGuide: Lisa has been scheming to get closer to Tyler.. It all seems to be building up to a huge moment for them..
Logan Huffman: Things are heating up.. After this episode, things are going to seem pretty peachy, but Tyler is [ Living ] a contradictory life.. He’s going to hop back and forth between things.. There’s something very special about Tyler and the Visitors want it.. He doesn’t know about that yet; he just sees a pretty girl that cares for him..
TVG: When you say there is something special about Tyler, does this have to do with the fact that he doesn’t know who his real father is?
LG: It’s probably something like that.. There is something special going on with him.. To be honest, people don’t realize it because it’s right in front of their face, but Tyler is a hero.. Have you read The Hero with a Thousand Faces? He’s the only character that fits every criteria.. Almost every famous character does not know who his father is.. Luke Skywalker! Those characters have huge hearts, but not much of a brain, and through pain they gain a real soul..
TVG: Is there a chance that he’ll join the resistance?
LG: He’ll have to fall down a lot first.. Erica is putting him in great danger by joining the Fifth Column..
TVG: Because of what lies ahead for him, should we worry about Tyler’s safety?
LG: Boy, the [ Critics ] would love for my character to be in great danger.. They all want me gone.. People will get to know me and maybe they’ll like me.. He is in great danger, but what young hero isn’t?
TVG: The Visitors have toyed around with the idea of mind control, but is Tyler being controlled by the Vs or is he doing this of his own free will?
LG: He’s just a kid with a big heart trying to make the world a better place.. Tyler is the casualty of the times’ choices.. As a casualty he sees a glimmer of hope in the distance and runs towards it.. When he finally gets to it, he realizes it’s not the right decision..

The Flickcast: With things up in arms both planet-side and on the ship, what can you tell me about tonight’s episode of V?
Logan Huffman: Well, everything is building up on the world stage, when it comes to Anna and the Fifth Column.. Things are moving along with my character and Lisa ( Laura Vandervoort ).. I don’t know what I can tell you, but it’s going to get pretty fun and intense in the weeks to come..
TF: Over the past few weeks, we’ve been getting hints at some big secret that has to do with Tyler.. Even Anna has stated that he’s ” special..” What can you tell us there, is it something genetic that makes Tyler special?
LH: [ Laughs ] Well I’m not sure how much I can tell you there.. I’m really happy because we’re starting to learn more about Tyler, and I can tell you that what we learn about him is very … good, but that’s all I can really say..
TF: Becoming a series regular on something as big as V kind of happened by chance for you, is that right?
LH: Actually, I worked with the director before, and unfortunately it’s always ” who you know,” and sometimes more ” who you trust..” I was living in New York and my brother from Florida calls me around midnight and tells me that Yves Simoneau, who I had worked with before, is directing for V, which I was going to audition for the next day, so I emailed him and asked for a few pointers for the audition.. He asked if I could send him a picture to show the producers.. After that, I auditioned and got a call back, so I guess I was just lucky.. I’ve worked really hard, but I did the whole cattle call thing [ Laughs ]..
TF: We’ve asked just about all of your costars this question, were you a fan of the original series?
LH: I was mildly aware of it.. I didn’t really watch it, but my parents and my truck – driving family all loved V.. What I did watch was a lot of Twilight Zone, and when I heard about the show, I immediately thought about the episode ” To Serve Man,” which I loved..
TF: Being apart of something like V, a weekly sci – fi mystery that’s meant to shock and keep audiences on our feet, are you taken back by some of the twists and turns in each script?
LH: I take it as it comes.. Every week, we’re learning more and more about everybody in the show, and it’s very interesting.. These new episodes since the break, there are roughly four new reveals every week, so it’s very action packed and fun..
What they’ve done with the writing really is meant to be quick with tons of new reveals to keep everyone on their feet.. It’s a very fun show to watch because people can pick up every week and stay up to date with each character and all the stuff that’s going on with them..
TF: We noticed, in the pilot, Tyler was played as a very young and immature teen, and now he’s seemed to mature and grow up.. Did you have anything to do with the change?
LH: Oh yeah.. And thank god he’s growing up.. He wouldn’t be very likable if he doesn’t.. I’ve had some very big problems with him because he’s nothing like me.. When we were setting up the characters in the beginning, I threw my opinion in there about Tyler.. I should have been one of those kids that was very social and had lots of friends growing up, but I was a chubby kid who couldn’t read and had a lisp, which humbled me..
So Tyler needed to have something like that happen, and what it was for him was his motorcycle accident.. Tyler is a ” don’t judge a book by his cover “ kind of guy and when this is all said and done, he’s going to be a completely different person.. I know that for a fact.. He’s going to evolve into a good direction..
TF: Does that mean that he turns out to be a Visitor?
LH: [ Laughs ] No, I don’t think so.. I have heard that, but I think that’s a bunch of mumbo jumbo.. I wish I could tell you more, but I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t turn out to be a V..

DaemonsTV: What originally attracted you to ‘ V ‘?
Logan Huffman: It’s kind of funny.. I actually worked with the director of the pilot in a Lifetime movie called ‘ America..’ My brother emailed me and he said, ‘ You’ve got an audition tonight..’ It was like twelve o’clock when I actually read my email so I wasn’t being a very good actor.. But my brother called me and he said, ‘ Hey, man.. You’ve got an audition.. I think the guy that directed ” America ” is directing this next..‘ So I emailed him and I said, ‘ Hey, what’s up Yves [ Simoneau ]? Do you have any pointers for this audition? I think you’re going to be a part of it..’ He emailed me back and said what kind of character it was and then asked, ‘ Have you changed any since I’ve seen you?’ In that show I had really long hair, an ungodly long mane.. I said, ‘ Yeah, I cut my hair..’ I went to all my neighbors in New York at three o’clock in the morning, knocking on their doors, and I don’t talk to people because I’m a bit of a recluse.. So for them to first meet me going, ‘ Can I use a camera and send it over the internet because I don’t know how to do this.. Can you send it?’ I finally found somebody who did it for me.. They sent it to the producers and the producers said, ‘ Oh, yeah,’ and then I just had to prove myself in the room.. It’s so cool because I remember when I first got out to New York, and I’d been trained for television and film and I’m a Meisner guy so I always thought that if I were going to do a TV show it would have to be something like ‘ LOST ‘ or else I’d just not do it.. I mean if I got something like another show that was more teenish, but this is more of a serious drama and gives me time to show my range.. And it’s a brilliant show..
DTV: How is Tyler’s relationship with his mom going to change? He’s a part of the V now but she has no idea..
LH: Well, it’s going to go in a lot of different directions.. I’m really excited because initially it was terribly hard for me to find Tyler.. I’m a big believer in all that acting is is a controlled schizophrenia and I’m nothing like him.. I’m actually the furthest thing from Tyler that you could find.. I’m a real cynic.. I don’t have much faith in about anything.. He was conflicting to me.. It’s like how can you ride a motorcycle and go to a psychiatrist.. To me that didn’t make any sense and the cool thing is that you’re going to start putting these pieces together.. Tyler, I hate to say it but people probably look at him and say, ‘ Why is he a loner? Why is all by himself? Why does he only have one best friend?’ He looks like a prep..
This is something that I’ve had trouble with my entire life.. People have looked at me like that because I look like I might be one of the popular kids but it was quite the contrary.. I was chubby and quite the loser, and actually kids thought that I was really disabled until the eighth grade, until the teachers gave me an IQ test and I got a 145.. So it was quite funny, the whole school thought that.. It’s just really that I have dyslexia and I don’t like to talk to people..
I talked to the writers when we were coming back from the four and I said, ‘ Listen, he needs something extraordinarily dramatic that’s happened to him in his past to make someone like him be a bit more out there..’ You come to find out why he is what he is.. His relationship with his mom, you’re going to see a lot of ups and downs because there’s going to be this huge reveal about what might make Tyler so special that the V‘s could use it.. There’s something very strange on earth about Tyler and there’s something very strange going on with the V‘s and Tyler.. So his relationships are going to move into a lot of different directions.. I love it because you get to see why he’s actually quite a tormented person and that he had something very, very traumatic and something very physical happen to him in the past that kind of messed him up and caused, he believes, his parents to breakup.. So it’s all his fault and basically all I can say is that he didn’t talk to anybody for six months.. We’ll find out.. I don’t want to say too much.. I’m giving you a spoiler.. You’re the first person I’ve said that to.. I’ve been very loose.. I think that a lot of people have had a lot of trouble with accepting Tyler.. In a way that’s what I wanted because I played him like a whinny kid.. Here’s the beautiful thing, once you get to know someone – this is where my ultimate goal I think with the character is, it’s to teach people not to judge a book by its cover.. I almost love it that I had this time to get a break and then you come back and you start to find out these things.. Hopefully I can teach some people some lessons, like, ‘ Okay, this kid seems like one thing,’ but really he’s quite different.. He’s a very passionate human being who only wants the best.. I think kids from generation can connect with my character because we feel that we were left a crappy earth.. For the first time in history our parents wanted to be better off than us.. That’s why we’re in this crisis.. That’s why everything has gone to hell in a hand basket.. That’s what Tyler is.. You get this amazing and beautiful ship showing up with all these wonderful answers and these beautiful people that are offering peace and love and generosity; how you cannot jump on that..
DTV: I thought his relationship with his mom was interesting because she didn’t say why she didn’t trust the V‘s.. Do you think the fact that Lisa is there and she’s so beautiful, is there a hope that she’s going to save earth? Is he blinded by her beauty?
LH: The way that I’ve played it, I think initially that’s something.. It’s just like anything else, first you lust and then you love.. I think really in the pilot it was really that lust, like, ‘ Ooh, wow.. Look at this.. She’s beautiful and stunning,’ and she’s got this cool message and is a part of something.. It was very carnal at first.. Then it was, ‘ Look, she’s got a great message I can hold onto..’
To go back to Tyler and his mom, it’s going to be extraordinarily up and down.. The new episodes are very quick and it’s very moving in a really interesting place.. They tell a lot of information and have a lot of reveals and all the actors, we’ve done a great job of also piecing together the humanity in it.. So it’ll be pretty fun.. Lisa, I think it does have to do with some of that.. She’s beautiful and stunning.. But I think a lot of it also, the way that I’ve been playing it, is that I wanted to make sure that people know Tyler is a young man with a cause.. There’s nothing more powerful than a young man with a cause.. If you read Joseph Campbell, Tyler fits a lot of really special requirements.. He’s leaving the mother.. He’s going out into hell.. Then he’s going to find a gift and bring it back for humanity and maybe he’ll make it a better place.. That’s nothing true of the series so far but when it comes to the requirements of what Tyler must do as an archetype I’m pretty excited.. That’s why I have no worries.. I just feel like this is a brilliant show and that people need this.. They need this escapism right now..
DTV: What about Anna and Tyler, how will that relationship develop? Are we going to see these two interacting more in the upcoming episodes?
LH: Yes.. I would say definitely.. Of course he’s going to interact with her more.. I can’t tell you what it’s about but she is showing him, like, ‘ We want you to be a part of our family..’ That was established when they showed him the engine room.. It’s about ‘ come on over to our side..’ Tyler is manipulated by them but he’s really blindly manipulated by them.. We only get a week by week script and I don’t know exactly but I’m going to tell you one thing, things get interesting between Anna and I.. That’s about it..
DTV: Does that happen in the first couple of episodes?
LH: I can’t tell you that.. I’m sorry.. I’m just saying those things are interesting and that could mean a lot of things.. But it’s fun.. I get to work with a lot of really powerful women as an actor and also as a character.. I’m so lucky because I’m kind of an actor who admires actresses more than actors.. I study actresses a lot.. In order to make it in this industry as an actor you have to be damn good.. In order to make it as an actress you have to be brilliant.. That’s really the truth.. For every one actor there are – what is it – four actresses trying [ to make it ] in this business.. So I’m learning a lot..
DTV: Can you talk about how you prepared for the part since you had trouble finding him? What’s your process in carving out a character?
LH: It’s a lot of different things and it can’t be pushed.. The moment that you start pushing it the worse it gets.. It’s really funny.. I know I’ve only done small things but I wish that people would actually go out and see some of my past work because I played some really strange individuals.. I usually play bad guys, masochists, guys like that.. To play someone so genuine and so enamored by something has been really hard for me because I’m not like that.. But Tyler is very interesting.. In the beginning it was tough.. Another thing, or well, I don’t know if I want to give away anymore of my secrets..
DTV: That’s up to you..
LH: A guy in a business suit could listen to R&B and you’d never know it by the look of his clothes.. So I’m a big believer in that I must find the song.. I must find what this person listens to.. Music is the most personal part of our lives.. It’s what makes us move.. It’s what compels us to do things, I think.. So it took me forever to figure out his song.. I’m not going to tell you his song..
DTV: I was going to ask that..
LH: No.. Secrets are powerful and they actually help because then you don’t have to think about it.. He was very hard for me at the beginning.. I have conversations with my characters all the time, even the ones from the past.. Every one of them I try to get to know.. I treat it like schizophrenia.. I let them take over and let them have their needs, wants and desires and then I just sit at home and talk to them and they talk back, as insane as that sounds.. But it’s very fun and it’s also a good way to not make anymore friends than I already have..
DTV: You mentioned having dyslexia.. How does that come into play for you when you get a script and have to learn your lines?
LH: Well, it’s been kind of an uphill battle in a lot of ways when I first got started.. I’m not related to anybody.. I’m not the son of a casting director.. I’m just a stupid kid from Indiana who was passionate about something and who actually walked out of a cornfield and pursued something.. At the beginning, it was about if they could trust me.. I remember the first job that I had, I shouldn’t mention the name, but I was offered a big deal and then a two movie deal after that for scary movies.. I was seventeen and I’d never had anything before and all my problems were solved.. I’d be able to take care of myself and be happy.. I went up there for two days and they gave me a script and they said, ‘ Read it, read it out loud,’ at the table read and everything.. I read out loud and I sounded like a country kid, just a complete bumbling cowboy.. It was like the cowboys off the old westerns in the schoolhouse.. It was very funny.. But I read it and two days later the producers fired me because they couldn’t trust me.. But I was very happy about that because I was never going to let that happen again.. I’ve had a lot of things like that.. It’s been really tough.. I’ve always been driven so that people would know that I’m an intelligent person because people didn’t treat me like one for a really long time.. I memorize things very well and so in school, to try to get by I would memorize things.. I love history.. I would memorize everything that I could.. As a benefit though, if people don’t see me read, I can memorize anything if I read it seven times.. Anything.. I read Sigmund Freud and he said that if you do anything seven times it becomes habit.. So that’s the way that I treat life.. Lines are nothing but the movement of your mouth and memorizing the movement of your mouth and then just living in the moment and experiencing what you’re saying; you should never really focus on the lines.. The lines are the truth of the moment and the truth of the scene.. They’re the structure but then what’s going on underneath that is the most important thing and that can only come through something that’s natural.. I’ve had an uphill battle when it comes to lines and learning. I know my lines.. It’s just getting people to trust me.. All my life I’ve been trying to get people to trust me.. I remember I used to tryout for plays but I couldn’t read out loud as a child and they wouldn’t give me any parts.. They just wouldn’t do it..
DTV: Look at you now on network TV..
LH: Yes.. I have to say it’s really funny for all the kids who made fun of me.. All of them ask to be my friends on Facebook..
DTV: Do you have anything else coming up besides ‘ V ‘?
LH: I’m working on stuff right now.. I can’t tell you anything but I’m working on trying to get something together but what actor isn’t.. I definitely want to do something and I definitely want to do something more like my traditional route, creepier.. The thing that I love about these next episodes is that I can actually show that I have some range.. I’m not just some mild teen put in there to bumper stuff.. You actually get to see me act as an actor and actually work.. I think the writers have really pushed for that and they knew that I could go to far places when it comes to working as an actor.. This is all I have.. This is all I care about..
My whole life is devoted to trying to understand the way that we feel things and what moves us as people and also to be affected by this because life is a beautiful thing.. It’s very long.. Everyone says that it goes by so fast but no it doesn’t.. If you live in the moment of every second of your life it always keeps on going.. There are so many little beautiful things and that’s what I do, I just study the little beautiful things.. There are thousands of little beautiful moments in every second that will make a good scene.. That’s the most exciting and passionate thing in my life.. I take what I do extraordinarily seriously.. Nothing else comes before this.. I just want to work and do something that I love.. It’s all actor BS.. I’m sorry..
DTV: If you could guest star on any other TV show, which one would it be?
LH: ‘ MonsterQuest..’ I’m joking.. That’s a History Channel show.. I would love to be in a comedy, probably like ‘ The Office ‘ or ‘ Modern Family..’ I would love to have a really strange and completely opposite kind of guy, something completely out there.. I like to stretch things and so hopefully I can get some of these parts that I’m working on.. The ones that I’m focusing on are really staunchly different from Tyler..
DTV: I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of ‘V ‘ and all things related to Tyler..
LH: He’s moving in a really fun direction.. I’m just happy because I think that people will actually get to see more range from me and maybe respect me a little more.. I know I’m the young buck and you always have to go through a hazing process and nobody knows me and so therefore they can say anything that they want about me.. So we’ll figure it out..
