This past weekend, Wizard World held its first Toronto Comic Con, and The Televix was there to chat with some of your fave small screen stars, past and present!

For the first segment from Toronto Comic Con, I’ve got a video interview with David Richmond – Peck, best known as Georgie Sutton on ABC’s V.. He was kind enough to share some of his thoughts on his first fan conference, art imitating life, and of course, the darker tone we can expect when the series returns this evening..

The V Files recently caught up and spoke with David Richmond – Peck, a Leo Award winner, who has bridged both film and television, comedy and drama successfully, making him one of Canada’s most visible young actors.. He’s now VERY visible in V: The New Series as ” Georgie Sutton,” who is  definitely one of the fans favorite characters and one of the most talked about characters in the series..

David’s passion for acting started in high school when he began to do public speaking.. Although he majored in Political Science at the University of Western Ontario, David was unable to shake the acting bug.. He eventually found a home in Langara College’s highly regarded theatre programme, Studio 58, where he began accepting professional acting roles in his second year and has not looked back..

Blessed with a wide and versatile range, David has come to be known for disappearing into every role and radically transforming his look for each new character.. With over 50 roles under his belt in the past nine years, he’s definitely one of Canada’s busiest actors..

His previous work  include SG – 1 and Stargate: Atlantis ( Different characters ), Fantastic Four, BSG, Traveler, Smallville, and The Day The Earth Stood Still.. His latest work was seen in the blockbuster 2012 and now V: The New Series.. Where will will see his performance next? As ” Prince John “ in Beyond Sherwood Forest.. He has also just finished work ing on Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball and is currently working on the Sci – Fi thriller Paradox..

Born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, David was a born athlete.. Between gigs he can be found pushing his boundaries kite – boarding off Jericho Beach or Boundary Bay.. His other interests range from snowboarding to advanced Scuba diving, horseback riding, squash, rugby, football, and skiing.. He is also an accomplished sailor, a family tradition that has seen David race in several off – shore competitions ( C.O.R.K. )..

David spoke with The V Files about his character and development for ” Georgie Sutton,” and the show..

The V Files: Were you a fan of V: The Original Mini – Series?
David Richmond – Peck: I was very much a fan of V.. I was also very young and extremely scared.. I don’t remember much other than a few images.. I had a long debate with myself regarding whether I should watch it before starting the new series.. I wanted to but I also didn’t want to affect or pull my performance in any direction.. So, I’ve decided to wait to watch it again until I know Georgie has been put to bed..

TVF: Can you tell us how you came into the role? Were you offered / auditioned?
DRP: I auditioned.. It was a very hectic time for me so I came a little late to the game.. I was shooting Joe Carnahan’s prequel to ” Smoking Aces “ with director P.J. Pesce and I didn’t have much time.. In fact, I had to push the audition a few times.. Man, I am glad I got it done..

TVF: Can you give us insight into your V character..
DRP: I don’t like to give too much away when discussing the character.. I find it limits the opinions of others when they know exactly what I’m playing.. I’ll give you a few broad strokes..  I’ve done a lot of thinking about what it means to choose a life such as Georgie’s.. I also wonder about how much of that is choice and how much was decided by his destiny and circumstance.. I think he struggles with it but his sense of purpose and knowledge of self allows him to understand that the resistance is way bigger than this moment.. His sole purpose ( And ‘ soul ‘ purpose ) is to keep the resistance alive and protect man from extinction..

TVF: What did you like about the character to want to play ” Georgie?”
DRP: I thought I really understood what he was trying to say.. What he wanted to communicate.. I gravitate toward complex characters and I knew Georgie would keep me fulfilled as an actor.. I also thought it was a great story..

TVF: How did you develop the character Georgie.. Eg: Inspiration for character..
DRP: Wow.. That’s an answer I could talk about for days.. Script, script, script, and research, research, research.. I did everything I could to make him absolutely real to me.. When I finally narrowed down and edited his purpose for being, the one overriding factor that influenced all his decisions, I  went back and answered all the questions again.. Character research is like a game to me.. I find it fascinating.. The better I know the character the better I can help the writers tell the story.. The greatest thing about a show like this is now I get to see him evolve..

I had many conversations with my fiancèe Kelly – Ruth Mercier about the starting point for Georgie’s creation.. I then had to understand what it was truly like to be so passionate about something that I would risk dying for a cause.. I’m all about self preservation so it was an interesting struggle.. Kelly – Ruth suggested I start researching terrorism.. I had to figure out the psychology behind the action.. She suggested that I look into Middle Eastern history, religion and politics, in an effort to gain deeper understanding into what it means to truly live or die for what you believe in.. I then expanded that research into psychological analysis of terrorist and suicide bombers.. I did a lot of thinking while walking around at night.. The location we used for Father Jack’’s church is quite close to where I live.. I don’t know how to explain it but seeing that church at night just seemed to help put it all together..

TVF: Where would you like to see the character go?
DRP: I have lots of ideas but I’m going to leave that to the hands of the writers.. I will say this: character could go anywhere and possibilities are endless..

TVF: Do you compare your character to any of the characters in the Original Mini – Series?
DRP: I don’t like to compare and I’m not familiar enough with the original.. I have heard people describe the character as both Willie and Ham Tyler..

TVF: What’s the relationship like between Georgie and Ryan ( Morris Chestnut ) and their battle against the V‘s?
DRP: That relationship is complicated.. There are definitely underlying issues of trust.. That doesn’t mean we wouldn’t make a good team … it just means we are conflicted..

TVF: Can you give us any more details about ” John May?”
DRP: I could, but then I’d have to kill you..

TVF: Will the Visitors finally catch up with Georgie?
DRP: I think it would be interesting if they did.. I think in order to survive this long, Georgie has had to live a very careful life.. That doesn’t mean it won’t catch up with him.. I’ll have to wait and find out what the writers want to put me through..

TVF: Is there anything that can stop the V‘s, like a weapon? Red dust etc? Does the ” R6 ” have the same kind of feel?
DRP: We’re working on it.. ( Laughing )..

TVF: There’s a big cliffhanger in episode four.. Should we worry about anyone dying?
DRP: I think in a show like this you should be worried at all times.. We are at war.. There is always the possibility of casualties..

TVF: Do you guys know what is happening due to ratings? Are we definitely seeing it return next year in March?
DRP: The show is just getting started.. I think we’re going to see some growth.. There really isn’t anything like it on television..

TVF: When do you go back into production? Is there a date set?
DRP: We don.t have a set date but production starts up again in January 2010..

TVF: What’s your average day like shooting V?
DRP: The average day is made of long hours, high stakes, and also demands a tremendous amount of mental energy.. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.. I think being an actor is the best job on the planet..

Ilana Rapp: What do you think / read about when dabbling in your interest in human psychology?  Who or what got you interested in it?
David Richmond – Peck: Let me first say that the question makes me sound like a psychology buff.. I’m not.. I have an interest in human behavior.. While at work most of my time and thought is spent on figuring out why my character thinks or acts like he does.. I guess you would say the work got me interested.. It’s now a vicious cycle ( Laughing )..

IR: What was your favorite part of one of your past interests: biology?
DRP: I did like biology but my favorite was debating.. It’s what made me want to be an actor.. I loved being able to take on a belief system of someone I disagreed with.. It was the one thing I always worked hard at.. I come from a medical family and thus had an interest in science but never wanted to pursue it..

IR: You seem very well connected in today’s world of social networking.  Were you ever an ” onliner ” before the Internet was big?  Example:  Did you ever logon to BBS’s ( Bulletin board systems ) and just chat for hours on end?
DRP: No.. I only started a few years ago.. I do most of my script and character research online.. I find it fascinating that we have access to information about almost anything.. Social Networking is how we now share information.. It’s the way of the future that’s already here..  ( You can find David on Twitter – @richmondpeck )

IR: Regarding work, have you ever needed to travel outside the Canada / California areas for a long period of time?  If so, how does this affect ( Or not affect ) your home life?
DRP: We haven’t had too much trouble.. We’re used to having hectic schedules.. My home life is truly fantastic.. I just wish sometimes I could be as organized at home as I am with my work..

IR: Why does Kelly – Ruth put up with you?
DRP: ( Laughing ) I ask myself that question sometimes.. She puts up with me because we’re perfect for each other.. I’m glad.. We’re both demanding for, and of, ourselves.. So I guess I’m saying we’re both a pain in the butt, but … I know quite a few people who envy us, as we’re both in the business [ So we understand what the other is going through ]..  We’re a formidable team.. ( Uh … Is she going to read this?)..

IR: What are your common distractions?
DRP: I’m constantly distracted with the character I am playing.. I have an odd habit of completely exiting conversations to enter whatever world my character is in.. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing.. It’s not a good habit.. Little things people say or do make always give me ideas about work.. Kelly – Ruth sometimes asks who she’s talking to.. She always knows when I ‘ disappear ‘ and someone else is present..

IR: Passion can sometimes escalate and / or be confused with obsession.. Now that 4 episodes are done, do you think your V character, Georgie, is obsessed with spreading the truth about the Visitors or just passionate about his beliefs? ( Or both?)
DRP: I think it’s beyond passion.. It’s his purpose.. It’s his destiny.. That storyline began well before we see him in the pilot.. Is he obsessive? Years ago,Georgie made the decision to turn his life over to a cause after he suffered an unthinkable tragedy.. Can we call it ” obsessive “ if the person actually chooses the obsession? If yes, they Georgie is definitely obsessed.. Failure is not an option, in his mind..

IR: As an actor, what’s it like having to react to items ( Ie Mothership or that flying death – ball ) that aren’t really there? Does someone tell you where to look, like a marker?
DRP: It’s always harder to interact with something that’s not there.. When looking at the probe we were actually looking at some guy holding a metallic ball on the end of a stick.. That’s when the imagination kicks in.. ( Laughs ) It just makes me think about what an amazing job I have.. It’s like high stakes day camp..

IR: In the Pilot episode when the flying death – ball invades the Resistance meeting, were you given a drawing or an advance peak at what the ball would look like?
DRP: I can’t remember.. I think Yves described it to me at the cast dinner.. Steve ( Pearlman ) showed us a few images but I think it was after we had already shot the scene..

IR: What is / was your process of figuring out how you want to play Georgie? Were you given a synopsis of his past history or did you make that up in your head?
DRP: Characters always evolve.. Life changes them as it does us.. So the work is constant.. I’m a big believer in script analysis.. I take every single bit of information I can and use it to create or advance the character.. Once the map of that life and story is pulled from the script I’ll then start to expand outwards and research from other sources.. Georgie is the product of dozens of hours of conversations with Kelly – Ruth ( I think she’s one of the finest coaches in North America, but she thinks I exaggerate ), some good collaboration with Yves, and countless hours writing and answering questions.. Georgie and I have become very close..

IR: In the 4 episodes filmed so far, which Georgie scene stands out the most to you? Which Georgie scene had the most Takes? ( Take 1, take 2, etc ).. Why did that scene have to be shot over and over again?
DRP: I love the scene with Father Jack in the church in the third episode.. The characters are in opposition but there is a great connection between them.. It’s the start of something.. It’s a moment that changes the direction of their lives.. We shot that scene late at night and we were short on time.. I really wanted more takes.. There were no outrageous number of takes in any scene but shooting TV moves much faster than film..

IR: How do you go about learning your lines for any character? Do you read through the entire script first or do you thumb through the pages and only read your character’s scenes, then go back and read the entire script? Do you have a ” special place ” you always go to when learning your lines, like a favorite chair or place outside?
DRP: I start by reading the script.. Without boring you with too much of my process learning the lines is the absolute last thing I do.. By then I’ve done so much research the lines are just there.. They make sense..

I have a particular place where I do my work.. I have twenty – four hour access to my friend Kevin McNulty’s garage.. Kevin is an extremely talented actor and is accustomed to my weird working hours.. I call it ” The Office..” We just installed a wood – burning stove to keep it warm during the winter.. I used to do my work at 24 – hr coffee shops, and I’m pretty sure there are a lot of people in Vancouver who’ve seen me talking to myself at all hours of the night and wondering if maybe I shouldn’t be out unescorted..

IR: Please share ANYTHING about V that will make the fans drool – something behind the scenes that fans wouldn’t normally know..
DRP: If you want to have fun on the set of V go to the make – up trailer.. We have some great conversations in there.. It’s the calm before going to the storm of work.. A typical day is fourteen hours.. That doesn’t include whatever preparation I may want to accomplish for the following shooting day.. We have trailers that are extremely comfortable but if I’m sitting in the trailer I’m most likely finishing work on the upcoming scene.. I’m sure some people have an idea of it being extremely glamorous but it really is a long, tightly packed day of work.. As far as sharing something to make you drool? There is something about the resistance I could tell you … Oh, wait.. ( Laughs ) Then I’d have to kill you..

IR: What upcoming shows / films can we look forward to seeing you in?
DRP: I worked on Joe Carnahan’s prequel to ” Smokin’ Aces “ directed by P.J. Pesce.. That’ll be released in the January.. I also just completed an episode of ” Fringe..” I’m reading two film scripts at the moment but it’s too early to comment on either.. I’ll usually tweet on twitter if I know something’s about to air.. When the TV series V hit the air in 1983, it quickly established itself as the thinking man’s sci – fi – an allegorical and creative imagining that combined suspense, action and philosophical drama ( With a nice helping of cheese thrown in for good measure ).. It was easy to ignore the low production value for a great story that at its heart was very human despite the alien theme.. This is the very reason I feel confident posting an ultimately sci – fi themed topic on a horror website..

Aside from being smart and seriously entertaining, there are many reasons that the show appealed to horror audiences.. And no I’m not just talking about the desire to ogle Diana eating mice.. When the Visitors peel off their human mask they’re not just revealing their sinister intentions.. They’re exposing the source of absolute dread for most individuals – the loss of the self.. Like the masked killers that pervade our screens – the unknown terror that stalks in the night, what we can’t see and what we don’t understand remains both alluring and frightening.. But it’s not just ‘ the other ‘ that fills us with a sense of dread.. It’s the notion that our identity which we hold so dear is shattered in a instant as the mask drops..

Canadian actor David Richmond – Peck stars in the current reimagining of V as Georgie Sutton, a resistance leader who bears the weight of an unbearable knowledge.. He has seen what lies beyond the mask.. This is an interesting role for Richmond – Peck who is somewhat of a chameleon himself.. He has played a wide range of characters in both TV and film where he has wholeheartedly thrown himself into the role.. He was the sleazy porn producer for Showtime’s hit The L – Word, a brutal soldier in Spielberg’s mini – series The West, a tortured novelist in the indie feature The Zero Sum and a snooty art patron in Fox’s Fantastic Four..

I recently spoke with Richmond – Peck to find out more about his role in V, sci – fi politics and The A – Team..

ScreamStress.com: Fans of the original V television series are complete diehards.. Tell them why they should give the new series a shot..
David Richmond – Peck: There’s a reason why fans of the original V are diehards: It’s a great story.. It reminds me of the David Vs Goliath.. The human struggle against forces too big to comprehend is a theme present in all great stories.. There’s nothing like rooting for the underdog! I think the V creators – from the 80′s and from present day – are telling a story that captivates the audience.. The original mini – series did this by successfully integrating the human struggle with elements of that particular time and hanging a very cool plot on it all.. I think the new version is already doing the same by integrating what mankind is faced with today.. Religion, politics, finance, and terrorism ( To name a few ) are elements that directly effect how we behave.. How we interact with others.. Especially how we interact with those who might be foreign to us.. It makes great storytelling.. The new series is a fresh new look at this struggle while combining almost everything we loved about the original..

SS: Your character, ” Georgie Sutton,” is quite passionate about his beliefs.. Can you give further insight into his character and what have you done to prepare yourself for intensity the role demands?
DRP: There is a lot of weight on Georgie’s shoulders.. I think the knowledge he possesses burdens him with great responsibility.. As an actor I have to carry that with me into every scene. It’s exhausting.. It’s exhausting both mentally and physically but at the same time it’s a ton of fun.. Even at rest, Georgie possesses intimate knowledge about the fate of mankind.. It’s difficult to imagine what it would feel like to wake up every morning and know that nothing is how it seems.. What would it be like to look to the sky and not see clouds or stars? What would it be like to look at someone you love and see death and destruction? Every thought or action flows through this filter for him..

SS: Is V a commentary on our political environment or just a great sci – fi story?
DRP: I think all great stories speak to us in some way.. What the story says to anyone depends on that particular person.. What we think, see, or feel, while being told a story is directly filtered through our own particular circumstances.. When it gets us talking we know it’s really good.. So is V a commentary on our political environment? I don’t think so.. I think people are thinking about the state of the world right now.. Politics is a tool for changing things and thus politics are on the mind.. So, I’m not surprised some people might see this as political commentary.. I see it as proof I’m participating in a great story..

SS: How have your experiences been on the set of V? Any fun stories to share?
DRP: Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, and Morris Chestnut are some of the nicest people I’ve worked with.. I know people always say that but it’s true.. It’s a very intelligent group of people.. In fact, the whole team is fantastic.. Working with Yves Simoneau is an experience all to itself.. Yves was paramount in the collaborative creation of Georgie.. I would work with him again on anything.. It’s been a very fun ride..

SS: Do I have any funny stories?
DRP: During the pilot Elizabeth and myself somehow managed to switch each other’s dialogue during one of the warehouse scenes.. Somehow, with cameras rolling, we both made it through.. That’s how Georgie got the repeat of Erica’s line ” A sleeper cell of Visitors “ in the edit.. Oh … and Joel Gretsch.. The man just makes me smile.. He’s a breath of fresh air when carrying the weight of Georgie all day.. There have many outbursts of laughter with Joel around..

SS: Are we all alone in the universe or do you believe there is someone or something else out there?
DRP: Have you not been watching? They’re already here..

SS: You had a role in the recently released film, 2012 and you starred in another disaster ( And alien ) themed film, The Day the Earth Stood Still.. Is it difficult as an actor to find your pace in a film where the focus tends to be on colossal special effects?
DRP: No, not at all.. For me it all comes down to story and how I participate in it.. I leave the visual environment to the experts in special – and digital – effects.. That’s the beautiful thing about film.. It’s a great collaboration of experts.. I’m passionate about script analysis and although some adjustments might need to be made technically for certain shots, for me, it all comes down to character.. Who is this character and why is he a part of the story?

SS: You are starring in the Smokin’ Aces prequel and a sci – fi film Paradox.. Can you share any character details? Is it hard to make the transition to different projects within the same genre?
DRP: I play Agent Dom Dumare in the second Aces film ( Or ” first,” as it’s actually a prequel ).. That was a blast.. Working with P.J. Pesce ( Director of Smokin Aces: Blowback ) is just easy all over.. I really enjoy his passion and attention to detail.. Saying anything else about the character and film would just spoil it for people.. I’d be happy to discuss it further after it’s released..

SS: Is it hard to make the transition?
DRP: Like I said earlier.. It all comes down to character.. Every project feels like a brand new start.. I have been told I’’m obsessive about preparation but the transition for me begins and ends with interpretation of character and how he best fits into story.. That usually equals an extraordinary number of hours of very fun analysis and research.. This transition is always difficult but the challenge it brings is why I do what I do..

SS: There has been a lot of talk about V and your role on A – Team.. Would you care to discuss?
DRP: I was approached by Joe Carnahan regarding the possibility of shooting The A – Team after he watched my performance in the Smokin’ Aces prequel.. It has to be one of the most exciting moments of my career.. ” Narc “ is one of my favorite films and it has been a long time goal of mine to work with him ( In any capacity ).. Unfortunately we were unable to resolve scheduling conflicts with V.. It was  incredibly disappointing but I’m looking forward to working with him in the future..

SS: Your partner Kelly – Ruth Mercier is a director / producer.. Does she help you prep for your roles and are you collaborating on any upcoming projects?
DRP: I met Kelly – Ruth while she was completing her Masters in Directing.. I say this without bias or hesitation: Her capacity for understanding story, the craft, and how to best combine the two for performance is unparalleled.. I work with her on everything..

Recently at a green carpet event for the screening for The Age of Stupid, Patrick and Donovan had an opportunity to chat with a few of the V cast members..

The aliens seem to have it easier than the humans, judging from the experiences of two Canadians featured in the new ABC – TV series V..

In the premiere of the Vancouver – filmed series, huge alien spacecraft appear over 29 of the world’s major cities.. Terror turns to trust as the alien leader turns out to be a gorgeous young woman named Anna ( Morena Baccarin ) who broadcasts a message of peace and offers alien technology to heal human diseases – a universal health plan, so to speak.. V is a remake of the 1980s series about good – looking aliens who turn out to be rodent – eating lizards under the pretty skin..

Also among the good – looking aliens is Canadian actor Laura Vandervoort, who first hit the radar as another Vancouver alien, Clark Kent’s Kryptonian cousin Kara in two seasons of Smallville.. In V, she plays Lisa, an alien teen who talks a young human ( Logan Huffman ) over to the alien side..

” I’m always drawn to sci – fi because the female roles are a lot stronger, I find,” says Vandervoort over the phone from Los Angeles, where she’s Visiting her boyfriend after shooting V‘s fourth episode..

The V world has both good and bad aliens, and Vandervoort says she hasn’t been told which she is..

” It’s always fun to play bad, but you never know, Lisa may not be bad,” she says.. ” Them not telling us makes it so exciting to read the next script … do I die in this episode, do I eat a rat? You never know and I prefer it that way.. They tell us the big stuff – how they want the Vs to act, how they come across..”

For the most part, the aliens ( The V is for Visitors ) come across as really effective television evangelists.. Or marketing – department number – jugglers..

” My direction is to play her as honestly as possible, so I’m playing her as a human with a secret,” says Vandervoort.. ” I’m playing a young 17 – year – old who is possibly in love..”

The show wraps the fourth episode within two weeks, and will resume filming another nine episodes in January.. Series creator Scott Peters earlier headed the Vancouver – filmed sci – fi series The 4400, which ran for four years.. That show’s American star Joel Gretsch returns in V as an activist priest who teams up with an FBI agent, played by Elizabeth Mitchell of LOST, to resist the aliens..

Vandervoort is enjoying being in on the launch of a new series – she and the cast gathered at Mitchell’s Vancouver home to watch the final version of the show’s pilot..

” Smallville was my first real introduction to the American market … it was huge even when I got on it,” says Vandervoort.. ” I’ve never really been on a show of this magnitude that started from the ground up..

” We’ve all moved out to Vancouver to shoot the show.. Because it’s such a large cast – eight or more regular actors on the show – we all rotate our storylines and our days..”

The show also stars Scott Wolf as a shallow TV anchor, Alan Tudyk as an alien living among the humans, and Morris Chestnut as someone drawn into fighting the alien invasion.. Vancouver’s David Richmond-Peck is featured as Georgie, a resistance leader who urges Chestnut’s character into the fight.. Georgie is the guy who tells Mitchell and Gretsch about the alien agenda – they’ve been here secretly for years before going public, and they’re up to no good..

Richmond – Peck was busy filming his last few scenes this week..

” A really dark, multi – layered complex character with a past,” Richmond – Peck says of his character after a late night of filming.. ” It’s an extremely demanding role because of the weight this character carries.. Even just doing a scene in an office, at the end of the day your neck is cramped up – to maintain that intensity in the performance is an extreme amount of mental and physical work even while standing still.. You’ve got to have that on you at all times..”

So, as the V premiere air date nears, he hasn’t had time to celebrate.. ” It’s always kind of submerged by the fact that I have so much work to do,” he says..

Ilana Rapp: Did you audition for your role in V or were you offered the part outright?
David Richmond – Peck: Yes, I did audition for Georgie.. It was a tough one.. I was deep into shooting Joe Carnahan’s prequel to Smokin Aces ( Directed by P.J. Pesce ) and had to push the audition several times because of scheduling conflicts.. I was finally able to put the audition on tape, which was followed by a calDRPack with Director Yves Simoneau at the production studio.. I believe ( Producer ) Steve Pearlman was there as well.. I knew immediately that I really wanted to work with Yves.. He’s an extremely intelligent storyteller and very specific.. It was also a great script.. Of course, I am extremely pleased.. I believe Georgie is a true collaboration of all involved..

IR: Did you watch V when it originally aired in 1983 – 1985? If not, have you seen the two mini – series and series? If yes, what are your thoughts on the original vs. the new pilot script? If no, are you planning on watching the original in the near future?
DRP: Yes I did watch the original V when it aired.. I was very young at the time and remember being very frightened.. I can’t speak specifically about the new script but I can say ( Producer ) Scott Peters and the rest of the team did a fantastic job.. Fans of the original will be very pleased.. This is a very well told story and the pilot episode is incredible..

IR: Please give insight into your V character.. Example: does your character have any flaws or weaknesses..
DRP: I can’t speak specifically about the character, but I can say that I loved playing this guy.. I suppose one of the first things I do when creating a character is to identify their one passion – the thing that is their compulsion; the thing they just cannot leave alone.. ” Georgie “ is one of the most committed, passionate characters I’ve ever played.. After this, I really try to articulate what it is about the character that is ‘ broken ‘ – in other words, the thing that manages to keep them in similar circumstances episode after episode.. In this case, I might suggest that Georgie’s passion is both his salvation and his tragic flaw.. We’ll have to see how things unfold in episodes to come..

IR: How do you relate to your character in real life, if at all?
DRP: Both Georgie and I are really, really focused and disciplined.. I suppose you could also say that live and breathe our passion morning, noon and night..

IR: What’s your average day like shooting V?
DRP: Shooting was a lot of work, a lot of stress ( The good kind ), and a lot of fun.. Everything I love about the job.. This is an extremely intelligent and collaborative group.. It was fantastic..

IR: Please share anything funny ( Blooper – like ) that’s happened during your V shoot..
DRP:  It will be much more fun for everyone to watch first and then get into the things that went sideways..

IR: How did you get into acting? If you could be anything other than an actor, what would you be?
DRP: I did a lot of public speaking when I was younger and always found myself creating a character that would have a set of beliefs similar to the particular side of the argument being debated.. I was also a movie fanatic.. It seemed to be a natural combination of both passions.. After moving to British Colombia I was directed by Kelly – Ruth Mercier in the Greek Tragedy ‘ The Bacchae..’ Kelly – Ruth, another fantastic storyteller ( Now my fiancé and acting coach when she’s not busy directing ), was doing her Masters in Directing at The University of British Colombia.. When the play ended I immediately applied to a conservatory acting program ( Studio 58 ).. I was hooked.. I started working professionally after that.. I don’t think there is anything else I could be.. I am an acting – addict.. It would have to be something to do with telling stories..

IR: What were you interests when you were in school as opposed to now? Example: favorite subject or sport.. Has that changed in time or still the same?
DRP: I really enjoyed English and Law.. I also loved biology.. I now have an interest in human psychology.. If I were to go back to school I’d be a psych major..

I did a ton of sports while at school ( Football, rugby, squash, skiing and sailing etc ).. While at university I enjoyed the art of the Keg – Stand.. I was a fraternity maniac then.. I lived in Whistler for a year after University and became addicted to snowboarding.. I also love the water.. Sailing is something that never left me and I would very much like to become better at kiteboarding ( Have equipment and ready to go ).. I’m also trying to learn golf but the sport is destroying me.. I love a challenge so it might be my next thing..

IR: Who are your favorite book authors and musicians?
DRP: I love Chris Martin and Coldplay, Silversun Pickups ( Great band and awesome to watch ), Postal Service, The Tragically Hip ( Great Canadian Band ), and a ton more..

I really loved reading Timothy Findley’s ‘ Not Wanted on the Voyage ‘ when in school ( Modern re – telling of the flood in Book of Genesis ) but I’ll pretty much read anything people suggest..

When I worked on The Day The Earth Stood Still Keanu Reeves ( Avid reader ) gave me a list of his favorites.. I put it in my car one day to pick them up while I was doing the play Red Light Winter by Adam Rapp ( Also directed by Kelly – Ruth Mercier ).. Someone stole the car as well as the list.. That’s life I guess..

IR: Has anyone ever given you advice when you were a child that’s stuck with you forever? If so, what was the advice?
DRP: My father.. ” You can be anything you want to be.. Just do something that makes you happy and get the proper training..”
