Could a certain sexy Cylon be heading back to V when the ABC series returns?

Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum says the show isn’t done with Michael Trucco’s story line yet.. ” John May may return,” he tells TVGuide.com..

When Trucco first appeared as the Fifth Column Resistance Leader in an April episode, it was discovered that Ryan ( Morris Chestnut ) had actually already killed May, as shown in a flashback..

But is John May actually alive? ” That’s what they hinted to me,” Trucco tells us.. ” I thought, ‘ OK, he’s dead, but he’s coming back?’ They’re like, ‘ Nope, he’s dead..’ I wrote that off as a one – off [ Appearance ], but they made some indication that maybe he’d come back..”

In the interim, Trucco has signed on to USA’s legal drama Facing Kate, but since both shows shoot in Vancouver, another V cameo seems feasible.. ” I would do it again,” the actor says.. ” I think it would be a great twist.. I would love to resolve that character and see a little bit more into what made him John May..”

Ilana Rapp: The fans are prepared that your ABC ” V ” character, Diana, may NOT be the 1980s Diana.. How are you going to play the new character differently from the original Diana?
Jane Badler: This Diana will, of course, be very different from the old Diana as it has been a long time.. I am no longer the young woman who first did V.. I am older and wiser and have had many life experiences.. Hopefully I will bring all that to the role.. Of course there will be a few surprises..

IR: As an actress, are you going to create a backstory in your head for Diana, or is a backstory provided by the ” V ” team to help create your character?
JB: Most of the back story has been supplied to me by the writers.. Thank goodness as it is a very different show..

IR: What the fans loved most about the 1980s Diana is her cunning, wit, sexuality and lack of human emotion.. Are you going to be able to use sexuality in this new role even if not required?  In other words, is everyone going to be your prey even if UNWRITTEN in the script?
JB: Hmmmm.. At this point I have only seen one script so I am afraid that is up to the writers.. I certainly hope so.. It would be a shame not to still have that part of my personality..

IR: What was your very first reaction when you received the inquiry to join ” V?”
JB: My first reaction was pure elation and excitement and then the reality set in … leaving home and my family which is always hard.. Also, the task ahead feels a bit daunting..

IR: Did you have an opportunity to meet any cast members before your first day of filming, which is 8/16/2010?  If so, who did you meet?  Reactions?
JB: Yes I have met most of the cast members.. They are all very friendly and down to earth..

IR: Unlike the 1980′s “ V,” the ABC ” V ” does not have any physical ” ships..” It’s all green screen. Do you find it easy or difficult to work with green screen..
JB: Today is my first day with green screen so I will have to let you know..

IR: Would you like to add anything else?
JB: I must finish up by thanking all of the many fans who have been absolutely integral in bringing me back to the small screen in America.. Your voice has been heard and I am deeply touched and grateful.. xx Jane

It’s no secret that there were numerous problems behind the scenes on ABC’s ” V..” For a start, the series lost its showrunner, Scott Peters, only four episodes in and the overall arc of the story had to be realigned..

However, what may not be apparent is just how directionless the series was after the upheaval and how much work was needed to re – create ” V “ into a working television series without stepping on the toes of the original four – episode story..

” It was tough in the beginning,” producer Scott Rosenbaum told The Futon Critic.. ” I had to create the mythology but then also back – track it so that it made sense with what the first four episodes “ had set up..

In the first batch of episodes, ” V “ focused more on the arrival of the Visitors and their impact on society, as well as placing them in locations where they could influence the human race.. Once the series returned from its extended break for the final run of episodes, the show focused more on the re – emergence of the Fifth Column and hints toward a coming war for the Earth..

However, one thing in short supply was answers on what the Visitors are really up to and why they are so interested in tagging the human race..

” In a complicated show that needs a mythology, you have to have … answers,” Rosenbaum said.. ” I think the reason the show had some problems in the beginning was because there weren’t answers to the questions “ being posed..

How will that change in Season Two? Well, Rosenbaum insists he now knows who these aliens are and where they come from … something that will change – and maybe even expand upon – some of the original series..

” Going into Season Two, I spent a lot of time completely solving the mythology [ And working out ] where [ The aliens ] came from, where they’d been before Earth [ And ] why they’re at Earth,” he said..” They’re a little different than a typical alien.. You’re going to understand what they are, how they were created and what they consist of.. They’re not necessarily just lizards..”

Fans of V who were disappointed by the first season are about to be more than compensated, the second season is much more thrilling, faster paced and emotionally intense..

How does the season begin?
Season Two begins with the panic that results from the red sky, the Vistors cut off their communications with the humans completely and most Visitors on earth return to the mother ship.. Anna refuses to answer to anyone and earth panics and takes pre – emptive measures to prepare for war.. The panic intensifies when red rain begins to fall..

What is the real purpose of the red sky?
The red sky is later revealed to be a ” gift for humanity ” spreading life on earth making deserts green.. The true purpose behind the red sky is to improve human fertility and prepare them for mass breeding with the Visitors..

What is Marcus’s agenda?
At the end of the first season it appeared Marcus had his own agenda with reviving Joshua and contacting Hobbs however in Season Two it appears all this was done with Anna’s knowledge as Anna is aware of Joshua’s revival however, Joshua is back missing memories and human emotions and is no longer a member of the Fifth Column, nor does he remember working with them.. Marcus takes orders from Anna and then blackmails Hobbs into carrying them out..

What happens to Ryan in Season Two?
In Season Two Ryan’s main goal is to be with his daughter.. Anna seperates him from his daughter and simply sends him back to earth planning to use the hybrid child to force Ryan into spying on the Fifth Column..

Does Anna experience any more human emotion?
Throughout the second season Anna struggles to control and hide her human emotions..

Why is Anna so interested in Tyler?
Tyler’s humanity comes into question as Erica connects complications with her pregency with Tyler to materials in the red sky..

Thank you Scott Rosenbaum for just making V a thousand times cooler.. After the Executive Producer let slip at Comic – Con that he’d be introducing Anna’s mother in V‘s November season premiere – and that her name would be Diana, fans went bonkers.. I personally begged Rosenbaum to cast Jane Badler ( So deliciously evil as lizard villainess Diana in NBC’s original ’80s V series ) as this new incarnation of Diana, and word has just reached me that he has indeed awarded Jane the role.. Woo – hoo!

When V returns, we will learn that Anna ( Morena Baccarin ) is keeping her mother prisoner on the mother ship in a never – before – seen section that has been designed to look like the Visitors’ home planet.. Both Morena and Laura Vandervoort, who plays Anna’s daughter, Lisa, told me they, too, were hoping Jane would take the role.. Still stunningly beautiful at age 56, Jane’s Diana, who will be a recurring character, is perhaps the only reptilian being who will be able to put Anna in her place.. November suddenly can’t come soon enough..

Actress Jane Badler, best known for her role on the original ” V “ series, will join the cast of ABC‘s ” V ” as a recurring guest star, playing Diana, mother to Anna ( Morena Baccarin ), who is now the leader of the Vs.. Badler will make her debut in the Season 2 premiere of the series..

Innsmouth Free Press: I remember there was an episode of Mission Impossible where you were singing.. I’m curious: Was that your singing or was that a recording?
Jane Badler: No, that was me.. I still am singing.. I am now releasing a second album..

IFP: Yes, when I saw the episode, I didn’t know about that.. But now that I’ve checked your MySpace page, I thought, Well, she must have been doing her own singing and I never realized it until now..
JB: Yeah, well, they found out I could sing – because I was singing before I was acting; I played instruments and sang growing up – so, when they heard that, they started thinking I could be a singer on the show.. So, I was an Irish singer; then I was a French singer.. That was very fun..

IFP: What made you return to music?
JB: It’s funny.. I sang at clubs when I was right out of university and then I went primarily into acting.. Then about ten, maybe eight years ago, I decided to get into jazz and I started singing in jazz clubs.. I did my own cabaret shows.. Then I joined a band called ” Sir,” which is an indie band, and we’ve been releasing albums and this, my second album, is being released, which is suddenly kind of what I’m doing now.. Even though I just finished a TV show here in Australia I’ve been working on for four months..

IFP: This second album, it’s called Tears Again.. Can you tell me about it?
JB: I do these kind of concept albums.. The first one was called Devil Has My Double.. It was about a society woman who lives in a mansion and has these weird, sexual obsessions; that’s her downfall.. This one is more of a homage to the soap opera.. I’ve done a lot of soap operas.. I was on two daytime soap operas and also Falcon Crest.. So, this one is more about all the crazy things that keep coming at you that cause you to cry again and again..

IFP: Now, how did you get into acting?
JB: Well, I guess, it’s a funny thing when you ask actors that.. It’s probably something that you just do.. I did it in school, then I was a theatre major at Northwestern University and I always thought, This is what I want to do.. There was never even … I never had to think about it.. I always did it.. When I graduated, I went to New York all by myself and said, ” I’m going to be an actress “ and that was it.. My mother was quite frightened because she lived in New Hampshire..

I made the rounds.. Started knocking on doors.. I was so driven.. My first job was a commercial for American Airlines.. Then I became the Commercial Queen; I did so many commercials, hundreds of them.. I did everything.. Hertz with O.J. Simpson and a bank commercial with Bob Hope.. Then suddenly, I had my first soap opera.. That’s kind of how it all began..

IFP: Diana on V, that was a major role for you..
JB: Yes, that is the role that will always be the role.. It’s crazy.. I look back at it now; I was asked to be on a panel that had huge screens and they played all these episodes of V from the 80′s and I just couldn’t believe it, watching myself on those big screens.. I was such a baby.. No longer [ Laughs ]..

It was fairly pivotal, I agree.. And it doesn’t seem to die.. Which is great.. There’s the new V.. It’s still going..

IFP: Yes.. What do you think about the new V?
JB: Yeah, I like it.. I really do.. Like the old V, it’s cerebral.. I don’t know if it has the same impact, because the old V was so innovative for its time; it had a very strong emotional impact on people and it still resonates..

This V is a bit more subtle.. They’ve put a lot of work into getting wonderful actors and working on the scripts; it’s shot beautifully.. It’s quality television.. I think it’ll be a slow burn.. I think it’s popular, but it’ll become more popular over time..

IFP: Now, I’ve heard rumours going back and forth: are you going to be in the new show?
JB: Well, as we are speaking, I still don’t know.. It’s something that is being worked out; whether or not I am going to return is still a decision that hasn’t been made by myself or the producers.. But it’s certainly something that is up in the air.. I’m sure there will be an announcement on that, probably in the next week..

IFP: Are you surprised about the fan interest? There’s a Facebook page called ” Help Get Jane Badler on ABC’s V “ and all this chatter about you?
JB: I know! [ Laughs ] My God! I seriously think that the fans are the real reason why they are considering me.. I get the feeling with the new V, it’s not something that they even wanted.. I really feel they wanted to separate from the old show – that’s my own feeling – and do a new V that was fresh.. I don’t think they were that interested in bringing back old cast members.. But there’s been – at least that I can see – a huge groundswell for me.. It seems like – although I am in Australia, so I’m not sure – there’s quite a strong swell of support.. People are really asking to bring me back..

Even when the announcement at Comic – Con slipped, the press caught it and there was a lot of press.. I’m sure that is a very big reason why I am being considered and there’s a lot of power in that..

IFP: Now, with the original show, it seemed like in the original mini – series and then the show and the second mini – series, Diana was different in the way she acted.. Were you asked to play her differently? Did you just grow into the role?
JB: The original mini – series was a work of art; it’s a classic.. The way it was filmed.. The script.. Kenny Johnson at the helm.. When Kenny left and it became a series, the scripts became very much like Joan Collins in Outer Space.. It became a soap opera in outer space.. It really descended into that and I just went with what was happening in the scripts.. Although it was fun, it was not what was intended in the original mini – series, which is probably why it didn’t last very long..

IFP: Yes.. Diana always seemed colder in the original.. More calculating.. Reptilian..
JB: Yes, she was great.. So great.. It was a fantastic role.. I feel so lucky to have done it and that it had that power..

IFP: Were there some places you wished they would have gone with your character in the TV show, but you weren’t able to go there?
JB: Yes, definitely.. I think it was frustrating, because it was unlike what I’m seeing with Anna in the new show, where they are developing the idea that there are vulnerabilities.. I love what they are doing with the human skin, that it’s melding itself, and the idea that they are fighting human emotions.. Whereas, my character never had that battle with human emotion.. There was never a question about it.. She never had human emotions.. So, although it was more of a freeing thing, it was also more one – dimensional..

IFP: That being said, I always found the aliens, the bad guys, more interesting than the good guys..
JB: I think that’s right.. They were! Let’s face it, it’s more fun.. And it’s more sexy.. Playing bad is kind of an aphrodisiac.. It’s a sexy thing to be strong, powerful and immoral.. Even though it’s horrible in real life, when you’re talking fantasy or sci – fi, I think it’s the character to have..

IFP: And you’ve said before that you like playing characters that have a little bit of deviousness..
JB: I just seem to be able to channel those characters very well for some reason.. I don’t know what it is.. As an actress, I’ve played lots of characters and I’ve been doing a lot of stage work here in Melbourne, but mostly on television, I seem to be stronger when I play characters that are not particularly nice [ Laughs ].. The same with this character that I played in this nighttime soap opera, again, I was not very nice [ Laughs ]..

IFP: What was your favourite scene to shoot from the miniseries or the TV show?
JB: I loved doing the conversion scene with Julie.. That was a very strong scene.. I think that at the time when I was doing it, it made me uncomfortable.. I felt I was so cruel.. I like it.. I don’t know why.. I thought it was cool..

And, of course, the hamster scene was great [ Laughs ].. It was very time – consuming.. It took two days to shoot.. Nowadays, you can do a special effect in an hour, but back then, it took longer and it was so cutting – edge.. So, I love that scene.. Holding it, walking and talking around, and handling my little snack..

IFP: Yes, you and June Chadwick, you were always eating bizarre things on screen.. Worms.. Bugs.. Mice..
JB: Totally! Recently, I did an episode of The Jace Hall Show.. And I don’t know if you caught that, but Jace is one of the Creators of the new V.. He has an Internet show called The Jace Hall Show.. If you go to YouTube, you’ll see me once again eating a mouse in more 2009 – style..

It’s amazing.. It’s a YouTube show I did when I was in Los Angeles..

IFP: We tend to think that actors resemble the characters they play, which is probably not true.. But are there any similarities between you and Diana?
JB: I think the way I live my life is probably the opposite of her.. I’m quite different.. Maybe the only thing I have is a tremendous perseverance and I am ambitious.. But I don’t want to dominate the world.. I’m quite different – probably quite soft – which is why I like playing her.. I can channel my fantasy.. My fantasy of how it would be fun to be..

SMG: It seems you’ve been a lot more active in the past few years.. Did you take a break to focus on your family and now you’re doing more projects?
JB: I had some tough years.. As an actress, it’s not that you want to take a break.. Obviously, I didn’t want to travel.. I couldn’t have travelled because I had babies and I brought up a family.. But I’ve never stopped loving acting and singing.. It’s just that there was a huge lull because I was in that mode of maternity and children.. I worked, but not a lot.. Occasional guest stars..

Yes, I think it’s weird; in the past few years, suddenly, I’m working a lot again and it’s so bizarre.. So fabulous.. Now my kids are older, they’re finishing school and suddenly, I can again.. It seems to have happened again.. Which is amazing..

IFP: One of the things you’ve been working on is a pilot for a show called Resistance.. Can you tell me about that?
JB: I did that maybe a year and a half ago.. They asked me if I wanted to be involved in a pilot for a new science – fiction show.. They called my character ” Diana “ [ Laughs ].. She’s really just a mother, a fun character.. There’s five superheroes.. I have a child who is very geeky and has gone to a gifted school and I don’t really know he has superpowers and fights crime and superaliens.. It’s aimed at a young audience.. We’re still waiting to hear about that.. We’ll see..

Funny thing, I just worked with one of the superheroes in the show that I just finished.. It’s kind of a smallish world here..

IFP: What do you like about science fiction?
JB: It’s really fun.. You’re stretching the boundaries of reality, technology.. You don’t just deal with subjects that are everyday subjects; you deal with huge issues.. Domination.. Science.. Morality.. Science fiction, if done well, is very thought – provoking..

IFP: Do you have some dream projects? Some stuff you’d really like to do?
JB: Yes.. I really do.. There’s definitely roles that I see and I say wow, not that the person doing it is not great, but I could also do a great job.. Sometimes, I do go out there and fight for things I should have.. I think in hindsight, one thing about having maturity now is that I’m not afraid of rejection.. I’m not afraid of making my feelings known when I want something.. Whereas, when you are younger, at least for me, it was more frightening..

IFP: Is there any stuff of yours that’s coming out soon?
JB: I did a movie.. It’s called Needle.. It’s a horror film.. I can’t get away from it [ Laugh ].. I shot that in December.. I think it’s going to be very good.. I play an archaeology professor.. Hopefully, it’ll be an international release..

I’m also releasing my album, Tears Again, probably in November..

It’s a big year and it’s exciting..

IFP: Well, that’s all the questions I have for tonight.. I hope you get a nice, yummy role on the new V and we get to see you again every week..
JB: [laughs] What a story that would be.. Twenty-seven years later.. It would be a good story!

TV Guide and Warner Bros. Television teamed up for a Comic – Con ” Special Edition ” issue which went on sale Monday 26th July 2010.. TV Guide Magazine’s, William Keck, had the opportunity to sit down with V‘s Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum who has given V fans some spoilers and surprises that are installed for us when V: The New Series Season Two airs in November 2010.. We had a friend that attended Comic – Con, who was kind enough to pick up a copy for us so we can share with the fans.. So without any further adue..

TVGuide: Could you explain the Red Sky Anna ordered in the finale’s closing moments?
Scott Rosenbaum: All I will say is that it was the first shot in the war.. The Red Sky is an important tool in her arsenal to ensure her plans for humanity are successful..

TVG: Is Valerie really dead?
SR: Yes, Valerie is dead.. Anna, in an effort to gain emotional control over Ryan, killed her in order to use her death as a tool to bring him back into the V fold..

TVG: Will we get to see more of Ryan and Val’s lizard baby besides that glimpse of it’s tail?
SR: Absolutely.. Ryan’s baby will be an integral part of his Season Two emotional arc, as well as a tool for Anna to manipulate him..

TVG: Why did you decide to make Anna experience emotion over the loss of her baby army? Are we to believe that Earth’s humanity is having an impact on the Visitors?
SR: The reason the Vs are experiencing human emotion will be explained in Season Two.. The decision was based on the mythology I created about who the Vs are, where they came from and what their plan is.. I don’t want to give away the full answer right now, but beyond the mythology aspect, I also felt it was an interesting way to shape her character arc: Cold ice queen feeling an emotion.. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a positive human emotion, such as love or empathy.. It was a negative and destructive one: Vengeance..

TVG: Why was Anna so devastated over the loss of her eggs?
SR: Because she in fact felt human emotions for the first time.. Vs are bred not to have human emotions.. They are animals, only interested in the perpetuity of their species.. Human emotions are not good for this..

TVG: Anna conceived thousands of babies in an instant.. Why not just do it again, or have another female V breed an army?
SR: As for breeding capabilities, only the queen can give birth.. Anna will be able to conceive again, but it is a difficult and painful process with risks..

TVG: Will Father Jack leave the priesthood, enabling hunky Joel Gretsch to become a viable romantic leading man?
SR: Father Jack is going to have his faith shaken in Season Two.. He will face some excruciating decisions about his role in the world, the church and the war with the Vs..

TVG: Why was there no security or cameras guarding Anna’s precious stash of eggs? Both Erica and Chad moved about freely on the Mothership..
SR: The reason there are no security cameras is because the Vs are ” Of Peace..” Before coming to Earth, there was never a crime committed on the ship.. Ever.. Anna’s no fool, however, and in Season Two, security will be tightened up..

TVG: Will we get to meet more of the regular characters’ extended families?
SR: Yes.. We’ll also introduce a lot of new interesting characters..

TVG: Are you considering showing the Vs on their home planet?
SR: At some point, yes.. But first, I’m going to show them at the last planet they conquered.. It’s gonna be very, very cool..

TVG: What is the chance of seeing some cool cameos next season from the original V stars?
SR: I’m looking into it.. I hope we will see a few of them..

TVG: Will we get to see a full reptilian reveal of the Vs out of their human skin?
SR: Yes.. Next season we will see much more of the Vs.. We will learn how they function, their abilities as different from ours and all that fun stuff everyone’s looking forward to.. For instance, we’ll meet new V types, more soldiers and trackers..

TVG: We were told that we would learn by the finale why the Visitors were here and what they wanted from us, but we didn’t..  So …?
SR: If you watch the series very carefully, why they’re here is hinted at, just not spelled out.. However, in Season Two, our team will discover Anna’s plans for us and this will be more clearly ( Revealed ) for the audience..

TVG: Erica’s teenage son Tyler has seemed like kind of a wuss all season.. What are your plans for him?
SR: Tyler is no longer going to sit on his thumbs.. He’s going to get engaged in the war and pick sides.. The question is which side will he pick?

TVG: What’s the overall plan for Season Two?
SR: It’s going to be an adrenalised version of Season One.. More character reveals, more lizard reveals, more V mythology, more action and more plot twists.. We’ll really look at where the key characters came from, their back stories, peeling back layers for them.. Season Two needed to deal with a lot of setup, and now that it’s there, the dominoes are gonna fall.. Expect a roller – coaster ride..
